The Bucket List - what your wish ?

Posted by Pankaj on Dec 19, 2008 in Movie Reviews

Cast: Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman, Sean Hayes, Beverly Todd, Rob Morrow

The movie begins on boring note, unsparing glimpse into the unraveling lives of two cancer patients and ends in sentimentality. Along the way, the pair, get to know each other by letting their differences down and go on to become best friends.

Corprate billionaire Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson) and working class mechanic Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman) have nothing in common for their illnesses and hospital room. They both share the same room for treatment. As every human has a list of wishes to fulfillĀ  before they die these two old men also had their list. And thats what is called ‘The Bucket List’.

Carter Chambers has a family behind him, a loving wife Virginia, two sons - one lawyer the other engineer and a violinist daughter. Edward Cole owns a lots of hospitals, many wives (divorced) and is in search of his one daughter. And Edward’s hospital policy is no private room for any one. So even during his treatment he has to share the room with another patient and that is how he comes on to meet Carter Chambers.

Carter prepares his bucket list but one he comes to know that there are few chances of him surviving he crushes the paper with his wishes and puts it to the dustbin. Edward takes that and adds up his bucket list and slowly they both get along each other, understand each other and do all things they love to do before they die.

The movie has some beautiful moments like one of the wishes of Edward being to Kiss the most beautiful girl in the world. At the end it turns out to be he is kissing his grand daughter which does leave people emotional.

Both actors have done amazingly well in the movie. The movie is one time worth watching as it does show the values of friendship at any age. And to enjoy your life its never to late just that you’ll have to find a billionaire like Edward to fulfill your Bucket List.

I would rate this movie 3 out of 5. Watch it for some pleasant moments, the journey of old men friendship and a few dialogs like the one by Jack Nicholson “No one cares what you think about”.
